Duo will travel to Washington, D.C. for national contest

Donald Shane of Juneau has been named recipient of the Daktronics Inc. Native American Scholarship given by the College of Engineering at South Dakota State University. Shane will be a senior civil engineering major at SDSU this fall.

Heather Hanes, who is pursuing a post graduate degree in Piano Performance was chosen as the Outstanding Music Student by the Music Department at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Coast Guard Cadet Samuel Z. Edwards of Juneau recently enrolled as a cadet at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. During Edwards' time at the Coast Guard Academy, he will also participate in summer on-the-job training.

Hilary Lindh graduated from the University of Utah on May 5 with a bachelor of science degree in biology (with a minor in chemistry).

Four Juneau students were named to the dean's list at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., for the Spring 2000 trimester. They are Heather Shaw, a chemistry-biology student; Marissa Florendo, an art student; Maureen d'Armand, who has a student-constructed major; and Sante Lesh, an English-communication student.

Carolyn Becker of Juneau has received an internship from the California Newspaper Publisher's Association. She graduated from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Calif., in May.

Clarabelle Abad, a senior at Juneau-Douglas High School, received a $5,000 Regents' Scholarship from Concordia University in Portland, Ore., based upon her academic achievement.

Jonathan Shane Rear of Juneau has graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, N.M., with a bachelor of science degree in industrial technology.
