On behalf of our members and supporters, the Alaska Wildlife Alliance would like to thank the Alaska Board of Game for extending a protection zone on state lands bordering Denali National Park to help protect the world-famous Toklat wolves. It is our hope that this action marks the beginning of bringing about balance to Alaska's wildlife management system by recognizing the non-consumptive values many Alaskans hold for wildlife.
We believe this action is a major step in the right direction, and will continue to work with the Board of Game to extend the area needed to give the Toklat wolves full protection. We will also continue with our campaign to protect a second viewable wolf pack closer to the park entrance, the area visited by people who travel only by car. This includes many people with special needs, the elderly and families with small children.
Our thanks to the Alaska Board of Game, Gov. Tony Knowles, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, and the thousands of Alaskans who helped achieve as much as we have. We look forward to continuing to work together towards gaining full legal protection on state land for these wolves.
