Odin Miller was named to the dean's list at the University of Alaska Fairbanks for the fall semester 2005. He is an English and Russian major at UAF and plans to study abroad in Russia in fall 2006. He is a 2002 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School.
Gregory Gendron of Juneau qualified for the dean's honor list at Eastern Washington University for the fall quarter 2005. To be listed, a student must carry at least 12 credits and achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
Juneau resident Brynna Slater, a freshman at Grove City College, was recently honored with induction into Crown and Sceptre during the Recognition Convocation at Parents' Weekend May 5-7 in Grove City, Pa. The sophomore women's honorary recognizes those who display scholarship, leadership and service during their freshman year.
Alex Heumann was presented with a leadership award for his 2005-2006 sophomore year at Holy Names University in Oakland, Calif. He is a 2004 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School and is the son of Jim and Katharine Heumann of Juneau.
Army Private Michael L. Riley and Army National Guard Private Aaron W. McCluskey have graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, Riley and McCluskey studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values and physical fitness. They also received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
Riley is a 1994 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School, and McCluskey is a 2004 graduate of Angoon High School.
