FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Department of Law has concluded that a veteran Fairbanks police officer was justified in a fatal shooting in March.
Fairbanks police say the law department's Office of Special Prosecutions found that Officer Alex Wells "acted appropriately and in accord with the high expectations we have for our police officers" under the circumstances that led to the March 8 shooting.
Police say those findings are consistent with the conclusion reached by the Fairbanks Police Department.
According to police, Wells shot 21-year-old Matthew Dillingham after he shot at her while trying to run away from a traffic stop.
