A Hoonah welcome

Celebrity Cruises' Mercury arrives Sunday in Hoonah. It was the first cruise ship ever to bring tourists to Hoonah and the new Port Icy Strait. About 1,800 passengers were aboard the ship. Hoonah has slightly more than 800 residents. Two ships are scheduled to visit Hoonah every week through the summer. A canoe carrying Hoonah Tlingits dressed in Native regalia welcomed passengers as they were ferried to shore on tenders.
