ANCHORAGE - A convicted sex offender is under arrest, accused of trying to flee the state by kayaking out through Southeast Alaska's Inside Passage.

Alaska State Troopers said they got a tip that 38-year-old Erik Jacobsen of Juneau might be running away.

Troopers said a helicopter crew with the Air National Guard spotted Jacobsen Thursday and troopers caught up with him as he was crossing Holkam Bay south of Juneau.

He was arrested on a $10,000 warrant for violating several of his parole requirements.

Jacobsen was taken to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.
