ANCHORAGE - Anchorage city employees are accepting an unpaid furlough.

The city reached agreement with a fifth employee union. The city is attempting to close a $17 million budget deficit.

The Anchorage Municipal Employees Association voted 1999-81 to take 56 hours of unpaid furlough this year.

City officials say that is the equivalent of a full-year rollback of a 2.7 percent wage increase employees reached on Jan. 1.

In exchange, employees will get an additional eight-hour holiday in 2011 and 2012. Their contract also will be extended until 2013.
