Hoonah resident Terry Ann Hicks died May 19, 2010 at home, surrounded by her family. Terry lost her courageous battle to colorectal cancer at the age of 49.
Terry was born to Delores Smith-Westman on March 2, 1961 in Rhinelander, Wis. In 1994, Terry settled in Hoonah, where she raised her three children. For many years, she worked as a cook/assistant manager at Mary's Inn restaurant in Hoonah, after which she went to work for the Office Bar, which she did right up until the time of her illness.
Next to spending time with her family and friends, Terry had several interests such as berry picking, fishing, hunting, and enjoying the outdoors.
Terry was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Clifford and Zada Smith, her first husband, James Michel, and her very close and special cousin, Laurie Long.
Terry is survived by her mother and step-father, Delores and George Westman; her son, Mitchel Zarazua; daughters, Melissa Michel-Thaalesen and Monica Zarazual; and grandchildren Zada, Shayla, Jaden, little Mitchel, and Leighton, as well as many wonderful aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 29, 2010, at Hoonah City School's Alumni Gym. All are invited to attend. A reception will follow the ceremony. Cards of condolence can be sent to Terry's family at: C/O George Westman, P.O. Box 534, Hoonah, AK 99829.
