Juneau basketball players Kyle Wales, Geoffrey Craig and David Wink are among 10 Southeast youths competing in a tournament in Reno, Nev., this weekend.
Team Alaska Southeast, comprised of seventh-graders from across the region, will take part in the 15th annual Northwest Sports AAU Reno Memorial Day Boys Basketball Tournament on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Wales is a 5-foot-6 guard, Craig is a 6-0 forward/center and Wink is a 6-4 center.
Other team members are Kyle Fossman of Haines; Ryan Howell and Erik Gile of Wrangell; Daniel Venneberg of Sitka; Albert Pahang of Ketchikan; and Stan Patterson and Jason Enright of Metlakatla.
The team is coached by Rodney Campbell of Sitka and Steve Fossman of Haines.
The tournament features more than 200 teams in 12 divisions. There are 20 teams in Team Alaska Southeast's division, and it will open play at 12:45 p.m. (PST) Saturday against the Pocket Jr. Kings of Sacramento, Calif. The Sacramento team made the semifinals in the sixth-grade division of last year's Reno tourney.
Team Alaska Southeast is the only Alaska team in the division, which also includes teams from California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.
