Tlingit & Haida Family and Youth Services Youth Specialist Jason Wilson, left, and Office of Children's Services Social Services Associate Malonie Vance, right, both received the Light of Hope Award from Juneau Court Appointed Special Advocate Supervisor Janine Reep, center, in an awards ceremony on May 16 at Valentine's Coffee House. Wilson works as a youth advocate for children involved in child protection proceedings. He leads the group Sons of Tradition and sponsors the group, Facing Foster Care in Alaska. He participates on the Youth Court board of directors for the Juneau school system and the Mayor's Task Force on Youth. Vance arranges visitation for children with parents and other family members. She assists parents in developing skills to parent more effectively and assists them in navigating the sometimes overwhelming bureaucracy of the children's services. She has also been a foster parent for several years and cares for five children.
