If the Juneau-Douglas High School boys and girls soccer teams hold state championship aspirations, the likely road again will go through South Anchorage.
The Wolverines received top seeds Sunday in both the boys and girls brackets for the upcoming 2008 ASAA State Soccer Championships in Anchorage. The tournament starts Wednesday at Anchorage Football Stadium.
In the boys bracket, three-time defending state champions South received a top seed and will face Mid-Alaska Conference champs West Valley at 2 p.m. Thursday. The winner gets either Kenai or Service at noon Friday.
The undefeated Crimson Bears (12-0-2) meanwhile earned a second seed and will take on Colony at 6 p.m. Thursday. The winner will play either Dimond or Soldotna at 4 p.m. Friday.
JDHS and South Anchorage met in the last two state finals, with the Wolverines winning 3-2 in 2006 and 2-1 in 2007.
This year, the Bears and Wolverines battled to a 4-4 draw in Anchorage.
The final is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
In the girls bracket, third-seeded Juneau-Douglas (10-5-1) will tangle with Wasilla at 4 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinal round. It will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.
The winner will draw either Service or Colony in the semifinal round at 6 p.m. Friday.
On the other end of the bracket, top seed and 2007 state runners-up South Anchorage will take on West Valley at noon Thursday while Soldotna plays defending state champions Chugiak at noon Wednesday.
