Matchups of undefeated teams looming large

Warm nights and hot bats heat up games in Week 2

Another week of almost perfect softball weather and more player registrations are streaming in - could there be a connection?

Teams are warming up after the winter layoffs, and the scores are starting to show it! Nothing like this warmer weather to make the balls fly deeper, and the bats to dent less often. Excuses that the "sun got in my eyes" were just unacceptable. Finally, it is a part of our games.

Coed D Division

Team Miller Lite and Drunkateers are both undefeated and have a showdown looming this week. Team Miller Lite drilled Nizich Dental 20-8, and Drunkateers slithered past both Wee Fishie Shoppe 19-18, and Southeast Waffle House 11-7. Southeast Waffle, Wee Fishie, and Nizich Dental are all looking for their first win, and big changes could happen this week!

Coed E Division

Auke Bay Electric and the Hooliguns both remain undefeated, but they will also face off this week. Valley Liquor Crown Royals is only a game back, and they play both the top teams in this early season doubleheader for the league lead! Cliff Beadle's State Farm is still looking for their first win after getting zapped by Auke Bay Electric 20-5. The State Farmers have a game this week against the GCI Party Fouls, who last week edged Valley Liquor 13-9 after losing to the Hooliguns 12-9. Watch for this division to get all muddled up by week's end!

Coed F North Division

In the North part of the Division, Brain Pain, Foodland, Killer Bees and HAZ GAS are all bunched up with one loss each. Foodland continued its offensive fireworks with a 21-2 spanking of the Piranhas. Killer Bees stomped Brain Pain 18-5, whose bats went painfully quiet. HAZ GAS beat Bartlett Too 10-7 in a tight battle, and then half of the Gassers ran off to a catered dinner, rather than face the Pavitt Piranhas, who got their first win via forfeit. Hey, they all count in the standings! And on a beautiful night at Sandy Beach, who woulda thunk it?

Coed F South Division

In the biggest of the divisions, the ranks of the undefeated are diminishing. Reliable Oil and Off the Cuff are the only two still without a loss, but one will fall when they meet this week. T & ★ Mad Batters and Team America are scoring up a storm, as Team America blew by Bartlett Bruisers 27-3, and the Mad Batters suffered their first loss in a squeaker to Off the Cuff 14-12. Alaska Towing got hot with a pair of wins, 19-8 over ERM Adder Ups, and 18-9 over Trusted Choice.

Coed G Division

The Labor Party, Local 52 Terminators, maintained their perfect 3-0 record by squeaking past AWARE 12-11. MRT Slammers tagged big on the Red Heads 20-6. Seabreeze came back from an opening week loss, to thump Attractive Nuisance 17-9, and then the Breeze cooled off MRT Slammers 13-8.

Mens C Division

Taku Oil stayed alone at the top, undefeated at 4-0, with wins over Parts Plus, 16-6, and Timberwolf, 10-3. Team Imperial was edged by Timberwolf 11-9, but then they rang the bell on Parts Plus 33-15.

Mens D Division

After an opening week loss, the Rounders have come back with three wins in a row, squeaking by Southeast Mine Supply 18-16, and then dusting off the Dirty Dozen, 21-13. The Dirty Ones then took a further shellacking from Pavitts, 22-4, which gained its season debut into the win column. Northern Lights Development stayed neck-and-neck with the Rounders at the top of the standings, drilling the Miners with another tight loss 16-13.

Mens E Division

The old guys from the Island Pub and Kapplers Computers continued their battle for this division lead. Kapplers slipped by The Pub team from Douglas 11-7. Play it Again Sports was humbled by Gas N' Go 31-0. In the nightcap, a game-winning, bases-loaded double in the bottom of the last inning gave them a squeaker over Home Depot 10-9.

Mens F Division

The UAS Flukes and the First National Capitals are still battling for the top of the division. The Flukes skimmed past Double Ugly 12-10, while the Caps slid past the 10 Rightfielders 7-4. Then, in the head-to-head game for the division lead, the UAS Flukes stayed undefeated, holding the Caps at bay for a 14-10 victory. In the battle of two teams looking for their first wins of the season, ACOA Mudstingers brought on the thunder, defeating Perseverance /Pak's 28-6. And then, in the stirring finale to this week's action, Double Ugly came back from 15 runs down, to squeek it out over the Mudstingers 27-26.

Womens C Division

Imperial continued its torrid undefeated start, beating Alaska Litho, 10-3, then slipping past Pat's Douglas Inn, in a thrilling game, 11-10. Earlier in the week, Pat's was edged out, 13-12, by Sticks N Stones. Not the best week for the team from Louies, but, hey, this division is so exciting that anything can happen each week. Alaska Litho split a pair, smacking Lynden 14-1, before losing to Imperial.

Womens D Division

Chicks with Sticks, Mendenhall Mall and Merchant's Wharf are all battling for the top of the leader board at the end of week two. The undefeated Chicks went on a rampage, delivering a message to AEG Staffing 41-2, and then, in a battle of the undefeateds with Merchants Wharf, came out ahead 14-9. Meanwhile, after an opening week loss, Mendenhall Mall matched the Chicks by first taking out AEG Staffing 20-2 and then the Parts Plus Ladies 15-9. Hecla's Angels showed its best offense of the young season, in a 21-4 loss to the team from the Wharf, but then barely avoided being shut out by the Parts Plus Ladies, 25-1. Mendenhall Mall faces a wicked test this week, with a doubleheader pitting them first against the Chicks and then, immediately after, a battle with the Merchants Wharf. Hecla's Angels and AEG Staffing will also play, with both looking for a first win.
