Longtime Juneau resident Helen Fossum died May 25, 2000, at St. Ann's Care Center after a long illness.

She was born March 15, 1929, in Sheridan, Wyo.

She moved to Juneau as an employee of the U.S. Forest Service and worked with the federal agency for 33 years until her retirement in 1985. She enjoyed collecting Alaska memorabilia and had a large collection of Alaska postcards.

She was a longtime member of the Pioneers of Alaska and the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband Harold Fossum of Juneau, children Selene (and husband Charlie) Johnnie and grandchild Wayne; Christine (and husband Doug) Anderson and grandchildren Jerrad, Hannah and Landon all of Soldotna; Bennie Fossum of Hoonah; and Kathleen (and husband Larry) Collison of Arlington, Va.; and brother Charles (and wife Carolyn) Dayharsh of Clifton, Va.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Fossum's home, 1309 Brittany Place in Juneau.

As requested, Fossum's body will be cremated and her ashes spread in the Point Retreat area.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Ann's Care Center, 415 Sixth Street, Juneau, Alaska, 99801.
