Both the Juneau-Douglas High School boys and girls soccer teams will open play in the state tournament Thursday in Anchorage.

The Crimson Bears boys squad was seeded third and will face sixth-seeded East Anchorage High School at 4 p.m. Thursday at Anchorage Football Stadium. JDHS (11-2-3) defeated the Thunderbirds 4-0 on April 27 and 8-1 on April 28 at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park.

Either the Crimson Bears or East Anchorage will face either West Anchorage High School or Kenai Central High School on Friday. The Eagles and Kardinals play at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

On the other side of the bracket, top-seeded South Anchorage High School will face West Valley High School at noon Thursday while fourth-seeded Wasilla will take on fifth-seeded Soldotna at noon Wednesday.

For the JDHS girls team, the fourth-seeded Crimson Bears will face fifth-seeded Homer at 2 p.m. Thursday.

This will be the first time JDHS (9-4-2) faced the Mariners this season. Against Alaska competition, the Bears are 8-2-1 and have allowed just three goals in those 11 games.

Either JDHS or Homer will face top-seeded South Anchorage or eighth-seeded Wasilla on Friday. The Wolverines and Warriors play at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, third-seeded Service will take on sixth-seeded Palmer at 6 p.m.

On Thursday, second-seeded Chugiak will take on seventh-seeded Lathrop at 6 p.m.
