JUNEAU - Bartlett Regional Hospital was awarded a three-year term of accreditation in mammography and mobile mammography services as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology.
The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to facilities for high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.
In 2007, Bartlett's mammography department performed 3,703 mammograms, of which nearly 700 were done in its mobile mammography unit.
Since 1992, the mobile mammography unit has been providing screening mammograms to women in the communities of Angoon, Craig, Haines, Hoonah, Kake, Klawock, Metlakatla, Skagway and Yakutat. The mobile mammography program starts each year in April and runs through September.
