TANACROSS - A wildfire burning in eastern interior Alaska has forced residents to evacuate the village of Tanacross.
Cars on the Alaska Highway 26 miles west of Tok were being escorted in smoky conditions. Officials say there are delays.
Fire managers say the Eagle Trail Fire worsened Thursday afternoon when winds increased in unusually hot and dry conditions. There have been no reports of people injured, or homes or other structures burned.
The wildfire so far has burned about 2,000 acres 12 miles west of Tok.
Fire managers say lighting overnight could spark more fires.
Tanacross is a community of 202 about 170 miles southeast of Fairbanks.
