An artist lecture at Celebration 2008 is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 6, in the Hickel Room at Centennial Hall.
This presentation will highlight portraits and video clips from the documentary "We Wear Our History: Northwest Coast Regalia Stories," a dance regalia documentary project. Producers Clarissa Hudson and Donna Foulke to share project ideas, network, and educate people about the significance and effect of ceremony, history, and stories surrounding the creation of Northwest Coast regalia. In sharing these stories they hope to open a dialogue on the importance of documenting Alaska Native cultural heritage.
They will also share the creation process of the documentary and their views on the value of making the project an honest and accurate presentation.
The documentary project began its first phase of research, photographing and filming at Celebration 2004. Many of the photographs and video clips collected will become a part of the documentary. The film team continues to document new stories and, pending funding, plans to journey through the Inside Passage from Canada through Alaska, stopping at a number of villages along the way and filming more personal stories in smaller communities.
