KENAI - Residents living near the lower Kasilof River said they don't object to a public drift boat takeout there but they don't want access for motorized boats.
The launch is proposed for the Kenai Peninsula river below the Sterling Highway.
Residents said they're worried about noise and pollution.
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game and the Department of Natural Resources proposed the boat launch in response to requests by fishermen and boaters.
State money for the project was vetoed by Gov. Sarah Palin, and federal money can't be used unless motorboat access is provided.
