Troopers recover body of drowned man

SOLDOTNA - Alaska State Troopers said they've recovered the body of a man who drowned while canoeing near Soldotna on the Kenai Peninsula.

Troopers said 40-year-old Douglas Pearcy was boating on Spirit Lake on Monday with 41-year-old Thomas Phelps when the canoe capsized.

Phelps swam to shore and called emergency officials.

Divers retrieved Pearcy's body later that night from 10-12 feet of water.

Troopers said they don't suspect foul play and said two men weren't wearing life vests.
