Saturday-Monday, May 29-31

• Juneau Yacht Club-Sailing Squadron - Juneau Cup Challenge Race, Round One: Racing takes place at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, with other stages on Sunday and Monday. The course on Saturday is about 17 miles from the Douglas Harbor area near Mayflower Island to Taku Harbor, with a layover day race from Taku Harbor to Twin Points and back on Sunday and a return trip to Douglas Harbor on Monday. This six-round, 13-leg event - which replaces the Rum Cup series - is open to all single-hulled sailboats. It uses a special handicapping system that favors liveaboards, boats with dogs, inexperienced crews and other cuising boat amenities. Monday, May 31

• Juneau-Douglas High School baseball: This year's Crimson Bears will play a squad of JDHS baseball alumni at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park. Game time tentatively set for 3 p.m.

Saturday, June 5

• Southeast Road Runners - Wes Coyner Memorial Duathlon: Registration at 8:30 a.m., race start at 9 a.m. for a 2-mile run/16-mile bike/2-mile run event beginning and ending at the False Outer Point parking lot on North Douglas Highway. The race is held in memory of local duathlete Wes Coyner. There will be individual and team competitions. Info: Reed Stoops, 463-3223.

• Juneau Freewheelers - Team Time Trial: A 25-mile team time trial, with a 14.5-mile sport class event, will begin at 10 a.m. at the North Douglas side of the bridge.



• Kluane Chilkat International Bike Relay registration - Registration is open for this year's event, which will be held on Saturday, June 19. Applications can be found on the Web at Early registration ended May 21. Fees vary, depending on race division. Info: KCIBR, 1-867-633-2579.

• Juneau Alpine Club monthly meeting - Meet at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, at the downtown library meeting room located above the parking garage. Info: Don Larsen, 789-2036.

• Capital City Soccer League - The men's league implements its player draft this month and all new players and those who played last year need to complete a player agreement and mail it to the CCSL office by Tuesday, June 1. Managers will pick teams in early June using the player agreements. Player agreements are available on the Web at, at the Zach Gordon Youth Center, or by calling the CCSL Hotline at 364-2503. Team registration for the women's competitive league takes place from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, at the downtown library conference room. League play begins on Thursday, July 1. Registration for the women's classic league - a less-competitive league open to all ages and experience levels - lasts until June 15, with late registrations accepted on a space-available basis. • Soccer referee clinic - A soccer referee clinic will be held on Wednesday, June 2, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Riverbend Elementary School commons. A visiting Grade 5 soccer referee from Northern California will cover topics including game management, positioning and using linespeople. There will be a presentation on general techniques, a review of World Cup games and - weather permitting - some outdoor demonstrations. The clinic of open to all. • Treadwell Arena inline hockey leagues - Juneau Parks and Recreation/Treadwell Arena will be running inline hockey leagues for youths and adults from June 11 through August 13. Registration forms are available at the arena, the Parks and Rec office at City Hall and at Skater's Edge. Forms are due by 4:30 p.m. on June 11. Info: Treadwell Arena, 586-0410.



• Adult volleyball/basketball open gyms - Meet from 7-9 p.m. on Fridays and from 7-9 p.m. on Sundays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym. Cost is $4 and open gym is limited to adults (age 18-older) only. Info: Community Schools, 463-1700, Ext. 325.

• Adult indoor soccer open gyms - Sessions are held from 7-9 p.m. on Sundays and most Fridays at Floyd Dryden Middle School. Check for updated schedules. Open to players 18 and older; cost is $5 per session. Contact: Pat Race, 586-3440.
