Thanks for participating in the food drive
Sound off on the important issues at
I would like to thank the Juneau and Douglas communities, the U.S. Postal Service employees, Girl Scouts and the many volunteers who participated in this year's highly successful Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on May 12.
Thanks to the local television stations, radio stations and newspapers for their help with advertising the event. Hats off to the city and rural letter carriers who stopped at every business and residence, collected not only mail but bags and sometimes heavy boxes of food.
The National Association of Letter Carriers, Campbell Soup Company and America's Second Harvest have been working together for 15 years to sponsor this nation's largest one-day food drive. The Juneau community has once again demonstrated their great generosity by donating 5,636 pounds of food to the Southeast Alaska Food Bank. Our apologies for the delayed thank-you; it took some time to count all the donations! The donated food will go a long way to feed the hungry over the summer months in our own community.
Thanks again to everyone for his or her efforts. Have a great summer.
