Juneau-Douglas High School CHOICE program juniors pose for a group photo during their barbecue fundraiser for breast cancer on May 1 at Alaskan & Proud market. For their annual service-learning project, the event raised more than $600, which they donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. In addition, the students learned what went into planning, marketing and implementing a fundraiser. The group thanks the following companies that helped the CHOICE junior class have a successful benefit barbecue: Alaskan & Proud market, for donating the location; Odom Corp., for donating the Coca-Cola products; Wal-Mart, Fred Meyer and Safeway, for donating funds to help buy supplies; and to everyone who came out to show support. The project was sponsored in part by Learn and Serve: America.
