JUNEAU - A Good Samaritan vessel teamed up with agency boats for a rescue Wednesday in Chatham Strait in Southeast Alaska, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

The Unicorn responded to a distress bulletin relayed by the Coast Guard and came to the aid of a 40-foot cabin cruiser, the Seatonic II, from five miles away.

The Seatonic reported it was taking on water and heading for a beach.

The Coast Guard launched a rescue helicopter from Sitka, plus 25- and 47-foot boats from Juneau.

The Unicorn got to the Seatonic first and provided a pump.

Coast Guard vessels provided a second pump and escorted the stricken vessel safely to Tenakee Springs.
