FAIRBANKS - U.S. Rep. Don Young is officially in the race to retain his seat in Congress.
The Alaska Republican filed his paperwork Thursday with the Division of Elections in Fairbanks.
Young seeks his 19th term.
In a prepared statement, Young said he knows he comes off as gruff and that his methods in Congress are aggressive.
But he said he's been effective during his 35 years in office.
Young faces a stiff primary challenge in August from Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, who has the endorsement of Gov. Sarah Palin, and Kodiak state Rep. Gabrielle LeDoux.
Former state Rep. Ethan Berkowitz and Young's opponent in 2006, Diane Benson, are running as Democrats.
