Fenumiai Ilalio Sr.

Juneau resident Fenumiai ``Su'a'' ``Paoa'' Ilalio Sr. died May 26, 2000, surrounded by his family in his home.

He was born Dec. 21, 1928, in Western Samoa. He worked in the construction industry as a carpenter in Western and American Samoa. He was also a High Talking Chief in his Native home. In 1989, he moved to Juneau to be with his children and grandchildren. He loved to sing and play the guitar and ukulele. He enjoyed watching his family perform traditional Samoan dances.

He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter Tuileisu.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years Suasa'a and children Filomena Kele, Faleiva Manu'a, Lui (and wife Mona) Fenumiai and grandchildren Aliitasi, Lui Jr., Lyonel, Luina, Lawrence and LiAnne; Lio (and wife Julie) Fenumiai and grandchildren Lio Jr., Fiatamalii, Natasha and Gabrielle; Maria (and husband Tualauta, Jr.) Levale and grandchildren Caroline, Alofaifo and Fiatamalii, Alofaae (and wife Gail) Fenumiai and grandchildren Nicole, Brittany, and Phillip; Fenumiai Jr., (and wife) Terri Ilalio and grandchild Matthew all of Juneau; Fofoa (and husband Motusaga) Soi and their children Limala'u, Pi, Motu, Pona, Fuapepa, Faiga and Trinity of San Jose, Calif.; Remo (and wife Peka) Fenumiai and grandchildren Simona, Tuileisu, Reno Jr., Ituau, Rossie, Vaiana, Sandino and Travis of Samoa; and 22 great-grandchildren.

A viewing and rosary will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Catholic Church followed by a funeral mass at 2 p.m., and a graveside service at Alaskan Memorial Park. A reception will follow in the Parrish Hall of the church.

Pallbearers will be Lio Fenumiai Sr., Lui Fenumiai Sr., Reno Fenumiai, Alofaae Fenumiai, Fenumiai Ililio Jr., Tualauta Levale and Kalei Wery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in his name to Hospice and Home Care of Juneau, 3200 Hospital Drive, Juneau, Alaska, 99801.
