ANCHORAGE - A 23-year-old hiker Anchorage hiker died Friday in a fall down a slope along the highway that leads to the Kenai Peninsula.
Alaska State Troopers say Andrew Jones was pronounced dead by Anchorage Fire Department emergency responders.
Jones had been camping with friends. Troopers say he and another person decided to take an early morning hike on rocky terrain at the Windy Point turnout about 20 miles south of downtown Anchorage.
Jones tumbled about 70 feet down a steep slope and could not be revived.
Responders took an emergency call shortly after 6 a.m.
