Contrary to other Word of Mouth comments, Destination Juneau is not a negative group. Our efforts are directed toward positive activities such as making visitors feel welcome to our city, improving our downtown area and working with the cruise ship industry to address and try to resolve tourism impacts.

Destination Juneau did not mean to imply that the sales tax money received from cruise ship spending was dedicated to paying for the new police station. The ad was to show that the 9 or 10 million sales tax dollars received by CBJ from cruise ship spending alone was about equal to the cost of the police station.

This Sunday is the first ever community gay pride festival. Let's show our appreciation for Juneau's diversity by attending. Everyone is invited.

About the Letter to the Editor regarding keeping the money and jobs in Alaska - I can't afford long-distance charges. One of the ways to drive down in-state prices is by bringing in competition. We can't keep paying top dollar for everything under the sun in the state anymore.

After enjoying the thoughtful letters in yesterday's paper, I realized the reason I felt so good was there was no Word of Mouth marring the Editorial page. Do you think we could get one day of silence when the Empire can take the phone off the hook?
