While I appreciate Steve Wolf's concern for safety on the road (his letter of May 13, "Slow down dump trucks"), I must say there are two sides to every coin.
First of all, I thought highways were for cars and trucks. Anyone who rides down the highway on the eight feet of roadway intended for a motor vehicle is risking his life and is also breaking the law. Bicyclists have four feet of bike path in which to ride safely on some roads, yet there have been some obstinate bikers who insist upon cycling right on the white line instead of in the bike path lane.
Just the other day two obviously seasoned bicyclists were riding double on a fairly narrow public road and seemed oblivious to the fact that I have an extra wide vehicle and was also facing a double yellow line. I don't drive on your bike path, so please stay off my highway.
