U.S. Coast Guard crewmen from the cutter Anacapa help a whale biologist free a humpback whale from a salmon gillnet Tuesday in Frederick Sound outside Petersburg. The whale became entangled in a local fisherman's net at about 5 p.m., and was freed at 9:30 p.m. After its release, the whale rested on the surface for more than an hour before slowly moving off.
