Thanks, Juneau for building a playground
Sound off on the important issues at
Congratulations and a huge thank you, Juneau, is what the project playground steering committee has to say!
You built an amazing playground for the children of Juneau, today and far into the future. Come out and see for yourself at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, at Twin Lakes. You won't believe all the different areas, from the tot lot and the bouncy bridge, to the ice castle and little mining town, with lots of swings and slides. There are plenty of benchs to relax on and much more. Please join us for the grand opening of best playground imaginable on June 16 at 11 a.m.

Thanks for donating toward our barbecue
SAGA would like to thank Super Bear Market for donating hot dogs for our AmeriCorps Week Community Barbecue Saturday. Also a great thanks to Alaskan and Proud market for their gift certificate donation. Our leaders and community members had a fun night thanks to your gratuity. Your support is greatly appreciated, especially with your donations to other events in the community at this time.
Thanks for supporting our Aqualaps swimmers
The swimmers and parents of Glacier Swim Club would like to thank everyone who helped make our annual Aqualaps fundraiser such a success. Once again, the community of Juneau came through with overwhelming support for our program through donations, per-lap pledges and corporate sponsorships. One hundred-fifteen swimmers swam almost 16,000 laps (that's about 225 miles!) to raise funds necessary to pay for coaches' salaries, training equipment, pool rental, scholarships for swimmers needing financial assistance and team travel.
Thank you to the following businesses which contributed prizes to keep the swimmers motivated throughout the pledge drive: Bullwinkle's, Gross Alaska, Juneau Bowling Center, McDonald's, Mount Roberts Tramway, Papa Murphy's and Party Zone. We would also like to recognize the Glacier Valley Rotary Club and Creativation Events and Rentals for donating booth space for fundraising at the boat show and the Bridal Extravaganza respectively.
We thank our Gold Level sponsors who have each donated between $500 and $1,000: Alaska Airlines, Alaska Marine Lines, Alaska Pacific Bank, Anchor Electric, First National Bank Alaska, Gastineau Human Services, Ike's Fuel, Jeffus and Williams Co, J.M. Walsh and Company, Dr. John Bursell, Dr. Joy Neyhart, Kennecott Greens Creek Mining Company, Dr. Lonnie Anderson, McDonald's, Pavitt Health and Fitness, Petro Marine, Printing Trade Company, RandD Rentals, Ross Company, Sealaska, Taku Smokeries, and Tony and Gwen McCormick. We especially appreciate the support of our Platinum Level sponsors who donated at least $1,000: Corban Custom Construction; Elgee, Rehfeld, Mertz, CPAs; GCI and Pete Kott.
Without the generosity of these companies as well as many more individuals and businesses that contribute to GSC throughout the year and the funding provided by the city of Juneau Parks and Recreation, it would not be possible for the Glacier Swim Club to provide such a high quality swim program to Juneau's kids. For those who are interested in seeing their donation put to work, we invite you to come down to the pool and check it out. Our swimmers are practicing there Monday through Saturday. Thanks for supporting youth swimming in Juneau!
Thanks for contributing to our dinner, auction
Thanks to a host of volunteers and contributors, to the 18th annual Discovery Southeast dinner and auction. We set new records for attendance and fundraising.
We are extremely grateful for the many personal contributions of time, auction items and other resources that made this year's event such a great success. Our sincere thanks to all for supporting Discovery Southeast's hands-on nature education programs!
Thanks also to all of you who joined Discovery Southeast for our annual Tracy Arm Cruise on May 12. We saw roughly half a dozen black bears, about the same number of mountain goats (all down low, of course), and we were treated to a large, beautiful brown bear sow retreating with her three cubs on the sand spit in Holkham Bay as we passed around Harbor Island on our return. Also there were many, many birds, including Pacific and common loons, an unusual sighting of a hawk (either a harrier or a red-tail, we couldn't tell for sure), and several small flocks of oldsquaws and a couple dozen humpbacks. Your support of science education in the natural world is so important for the children of Juneau.
Cathy Connor and Larry West
Thanks for Juneau Appreciation Day sales
The Juneau Raptor Center would like to thank Goldbelt and the Mount Roberts Tramway for their generous donation of all ticket sale proceeds for this year's Juneau Appreciation Day. This is a major fundraiser for us, and we could not have done this without the support of George Reifenstein and the tram staff, who are always very supportive and helpful.
We would like to thank the Juneau Empire for its donation of two days of free advertising for this event. The ads were tastefully done and placed in areas of the paper that could easily be seen. Thank you to both locations of Hearthside Books and Wee Fishie Shoppe, for selling tickets.
We are also very grateful to the volunteers who helped with this event by selling tickets and bringing education birds.
Lastly, the Juneau Raptor Center would like to thank the community of Juneau for riding the tram on Juneau Appreciation Day and helping to support the work we do for the wild birds of this area.
