Unexploded ordnance found near Knik River

ANCHORAGE - An unexploded mortar round, 30 to 40 years old, was found near the Knik River, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers said they detonated the ordnance without incident.

It was found near mile 30.6 of the Glen Highway.

The source of the ordnance is unknown.

Troopers said it appeared to be a piece of military weaponry.
