ANCHORAGE - A 68-year-old amputee got his all-terrain vehicle stuck and spent a night trying to crawl to safety.
Alaska State Troopers said an officer searching for Allen Redden found him the next afternoon on a Kenai Peninsula trail.
Redden, whose right leg ends at the thigh, bought a three-wheeler and was seen driving it away from an Anchor Point business at 10 a.m. May 22. He was reported missing the next morning.
Troopers, Redden's friends and an emergency team began searching. A trooper found Redden around 4 p.m.
Troopers said he spent most of the night trying to crawl for help. It was rainy and Redden tried unsuccessfully to light a fire using a couple of dollar bills.
He was dehydrated but otherwise OK, troopers said.
