WASILLA - A 54-year-old Wasilla man is claiming self-defense as he stands trial in Palmer on charges of attempted murder and assault.
Jurors heard opening statements Thursday in the trial of Kenneth Goldsbury, charged with firing a shotgun through a motel room door and hitting another resident.
The shooting occurred Super Bowl Sunday at the Roadside Inn on the Parks Highway.
Assistant District Attorney Kerry Corliss said both Goldsbury and the man he shot, Marvin Long, were living at the motel. Long had been there for years and Goldsbury was a more recent arrival.
The day of the shooting, she said, they had argued over drywall supplies and both were drunk.
