JUNEAU - Northern Testing Laboratories Inc., a Fairbanks-based environmental laboratory, has announced plans to merge with Thornton, Colo.-based Analytica Group, also an environmental laboratory.

Analytica Alaska Inc., a subsidiary of Analytica Group, has operated a lab in Anchorage since 1990, and one in Juneau since 1998. The company specializes in petroleum hydrocarbon analysis, monitoring and fingerprinting, and the Juneau lab monitors public drinking water and industrial wastewater permits throughout Southeast Alaska.

Northern Testing Laboratories began in Fairbanks in 1977 and expanded to Anchorage in 1985 and to Prudhoe Bay in 1998. The company serves the testing needs of more than 500 public water systems and wastewater treatment facilities throughout Alaska.

Once merged, the companies will focus on establishing a strong presence in the water industry throughout the continental United States, company representatives said in a press release.
