ANCHORAGE - U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates conducted a town hall meeting at Elmendorf Air Force Base.
Gates did not take any questions from the media Monday during a stop at Elmendorf Air Force Base. From there, he went to Fort Greely south of Fairbanks.
Gates visit comes amid reports of North Korea appearing to be preparing to test an advanced missile designed to reach the United States, and in range of Alaska. North Korea has had other recent missile tests and a second underground nuclear test.
Gates says the importance of Elmendorf Air Force Base was "driven home by North Korea's recent provocations."
