JUNEAU - May's annual Spring King Salmon Derby has come to an end, with Dan Neal sitting atop the leaderboard with a 32.65-pound salmon he caught on May 20.

Neal was in the lead according to the derby's website, but final standings won't be official until 4 p.m. today. The leaderboard can be viewed at www.springkingderby.org/.

As of press time on Tuesday, Neal barely beat out Peter Castillo, whose May 16 catch weighed in at 32.60 pounds.

Ole Taug III finished in third place with a 31.25-pound salmon, also caught May 16, and Renato Lumba showed in fourth place with a 30.90-pound fish.

There were six fish that weighed at least 30 pounds, and Chet Durand and Greg Mitchell rounded off that top six with a 30.05-pound salmon caught May 21 and a 30-pound fish caught on Memorial Day, respectively.

The annual fishing derby is sponsored by Central Counsel Tlingit and Haida.
