ANCHORAGE - A plan to move the Alaska Firefighter Memorial to downtown Anchorage needs community support - about $100,000 worth.
Each year, on Sept. 11, firefighters who have died in the line of duty are remembered.
The ceremony is held at the Alaska Firefighter Memorial in Airport Heights. Built and dedicated in 1995, it recognizes firefighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics who have died since 1946.
Jodie Hettrick of the Alaska Division of Fire and Life Safety says moving the memorial downtown will allow more people to see it. The move, however, will cost about $100,000 and the money has yet to be raised.
