Posted: Wednesday, June 03, 2009

The bats got hot, the bodies were flying, and even the rain couldn't keep the action from smokin' in Week 3.

This weekend's upcoming Coed Tournament at Dimond Park promises to bring more of the same - and remember the sunscreen.

Whatta division! Imperial beat Lynden 12-6, but then promptly left the ranks of the undefeated, losing to Sticks N' Stones 13-11. Then, everyone beat up on each other throughout the division. All the teams split their games this week. The women from Louie's lost to Lynden 13-8, but beat Alaska Litho 13-6. Alaska Litho got it back, though, with a 16-12 squeaker over Sticks. Imperial may have a two game lead, but nothing is certain in this division!

This week, Mendenhall Mall emerged from the dustpile on top by one game, thanks to a forfeit win over Chicks with Sticks and then the narrowest of 10-9 victories over Merchant's Wharf. But, Merchant's Wharf wasn't going to let themselves drop back in the pack, as they fought back to beat the Parts Plus Ladies 6-1 - and they did it with only eight players. So, of course, Parts Plus took out that frustration on AEG Staffing, and administered a 24-6 thumping. Meanwhile, Hecla's Angels picked up their first win of the season with a solid 10-3 win over AEG. There isn't much space between the top four teams in this division!

Auke Bay Electric and the Hooliguns entered the night undefeated, and with a showdown! Auke Bay started the evening with a sizzling 9-6 victory over the Crown Royals. When the dust settled at the end of the night, the Hooliguns, in a thriller, slipped past Auke Bay 13-12, only to get the velvet bag treatment from Valley Liquor Crown Royals 8-7. Not to be outdone, GCI Party Fouls stayed in the race with a really close 10-8 nail-biter over Cliff Beadles State Farm.

Foodland continued its offensive rampage, fueled by burgers from the Douglas Cafe, as they gave a freeze to Brain Pain 16-15, and then stopped Bartlett Too 15-8. The Killer Bees, who started the night tied with Foodland and Brain Pain, stayed the course as they bit the Pavitt Piranhas 9-6, and then rode a grand slam to dead center field in their 16-9 victory over Haz Gas. In the meantime, Pavitt made it two loses for the Too in a 21-14 slugfest. The Haz Gas bats didn't inflict much pain, and their signature rally never materialized, as they lost to Brain Pain 16-10.

In the biggest of the divisions, no team is still undefeated. In fact, four teams are tied for the lead, and two other teams are only a game back. Team America dusted off their superhero outfits in a 30-2 crushing of Trusted Choice, and then in a Houdini escape to beat Off the Cuff 15-14. The Cuff masters followed that with a 14-9 loss to Reliable Oil, and it was time to forget that night! Meanwhile, ERM bruised Bartlett 26-6, T&H Mad Batters greased Reliable Oil 13-4 and Alaska Towing parked the Pirates 12-3. Any week can have any winner in this really well balanced division.

The Terminators remained perfect at 5-0 by slamming MRT 30-5, and then dusting off Attractive Nuisance 13-3. Their mantra, "Battalions of Terminators will rule" is echoing, but Seabreeze is waiting in the wings for this battle royale, as they breezed by the Red Headed little ones 15-9, and then set up this week's showdown with the Terminators, by closing the door on AWARE 12-9. The Seabreeze and Terminator matchup will be a great one!

Taku Oil stayed hot and undefeated at 6-0, as they squeaked by Team Imperial 20-19 and then greased Parts Plus 18-12. Trying to maintain the pace, Timberwolf handed the Imperial team their second one-run loss of the night, 9-8, and bit the Parts Plus men 19-18. Every game was close this week!

There wasn't a lot of rain last week, but Men's D division found all of it. Plagued by rainouts on both Tuesday and Friday nights, the only game to be played was a Northern Lights brown-out on the Dirty Dozen 13-8. Any rainouts will be all made up on June 20th, and that could be a really exciting day for this division.

Kapplers Computers stayed undefeated at 6-0, as they whizzed past Play it Again Sports 20-16 and left Gas N Go in the dust 24-4. Island Pub also went the distance, stopping Play it Again 11-5 and then getting a breather with a forfeit from Home Depot, who also forfeited to Gas N Go. The First National Caps banked some points this week, with a 10-6 wet, cold win over ACOA Mudstingers, and then handed Double Ugly a triple ugly walloping 24-5. Double Ugly did get some redemption, though, with a 20-12 washing of Perseverance/Pak's. The 10 Rightfielders were all over the field in a 13-11 win over the UAS Flukes, but the Mudstingers warmed up and handed them a 15-10 loss. The UAS Flukes entered the week in first place, but were glad to see this week float past after a 3-1 loss to the Pak's. The best part of this game was the hot shower afterwards. This is still any team's division!! Lotsa ball still to be played!
