Tanana Valley campus hopes new name ends confusion

FAIRBANKS - The University of Alaska Fairbanks' Tanana Valley Campus could be history by the end of the week.

Leaders at the campus, which has a community college mission, are proposing that TVC change its name as part of an effort to improve its image. A proposal before the UA Board of Regents on Thursday will dub the school as "UAF Community and Technical College."

Supporters of the change say it will clarify TVC's role, which has been the source of some confusion. Tanana Valley Campus actually includes 11 campuses, with many of those locations outside the Tanana Valley.

The Board of Regents will vote on the name change at its meeting in Anchorage, which is scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
