Word of mouth

It really bugs me to buy the Friday newspaper for two things, the classified and the Weekender sections, and to find out those sections are not in the newspaper. I bought my newspaper in Douglas and I'm wondering if other people had the same problem.

I went and saw ``Fry Tales'' at Perseverance Theatre last night when it opened and it was fabulous. Bravo to Perseverance for putting on quality, quality children's theater. Everyone should see this show and take their kids to it, or just take themselves to it.

The service at the downtown post office is terrible. Eating during slack hours such as 10 a.m. or 2 p.m., two harried clerks grimly working their way through lines of 10 to 20 people - some of us carrying heavy parcels. The postal workers were sympathetic, saying they have no control of scheduling. I asked for a complaint form; none could be found. I think my next step is to write to the Postmaster General in Washington, D.C.

It would have been great if the folks from DOT had waited to clear the shoulders until after the lupine had bloomed. I missed them this year.

I couldn't help but notice that all that heavy equipment on Egan Drive missed one weed that was growing along there.

I am confused by the headline on Friday's front page ``The return of Native pride.'' I was unaware that Alaska Natives have lost their pride. Of course, I rely on the Empire for my news and therefore am unaware of many things.

I saw four helicopters headed south down Gastineau Channel Friday afternoon and they were flying about the elevation of the mountains in Douglas. Although I'm usually one to criticize the industry, I was surprised it was a very manageable amount of noise. Thank you helicopter operators for doing your part to keep the noise down.

I know how Juneau can get millions of dollars of federal money. Have them pay us $500 each for those who have not filled out a Census form. For $500 I would fill out the Census. Otherwise forget it.

The dog patrol needs to patrol neighborhoods for people with dogs who defecate in people's lawns. I'm tired of cleaning out my lawn all the time. This is getting to be a bad thing going on. They need to start doing their job when people complain.

Please go back to your original format on the Sunday crossword. It used to be very enjoyable, but you've made it so small you hardly have room to write the words. Even though my eyesight is good, the numbers are very tiny.

I am pleading for JPD to start patrolling the library parking lot downtown, even during the night. During the last two weeks I've had a little booklet of CD's stolen from the car, I've found a drunk guy sleeping in my car and just this morning we found someone had taken apart our dash to try to steal the CD player.

I'd like to thank the forces of geology and glaciation for this wonderful place we live in.

Last night I was pumping gas at Mapco enjoying the sunshine and looking out toward the wetlands, thinking how beautiful it was, but the noise from Egan Drive was really disruptive and I thought maybe I should start an initiative that would limit traffic between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, and eliminate it on Saturdays. I think that would be fair, don't you?

Ever since the CBJ, the FAA and the helicopter companies worked out voluntary compliance for new flight paths this year no one hears helicopters in Juneau, West Juneau, Douglas, Thane or the Valley, so why, pray tell, are we being subjected to an initiative to limit their flights?
