KODIAK - The team of people paving the trail for a 2,000-mile personal watercraft race have called off their trip, short of their goal of reaching Iliamna.
The expedition for the Alaskan Wet Dog Race has been stranded by weather at Wide Bay on the Alaska Peninsula for three days. Instead of continuing on, team leader John Lang said they'll head back to Anchorage with a short stopover in Kodiak.
He said they are calling it because of time constraints. But he adds they are using this as a learning experience as they plan the race, and consider the trip a success in spite of the premature end.
Lang said he remains confident the race will become a reality in the near future.
