Lawmakers continue to explore veto override

JUNEAU - State legislators continue to discuss an override of Gov. Sarah Palin's veto of $28.6 million in federal stimulus money for energy efficiency programs.

Palin last month vetoed the legislative appropriation of State Energy Program funds.

Legislative leaders Wednesday sent a letter to federal Energy Secretary Steven Chu asking to preserve the state's option to accept the money.

They asked if Chu would hold open the application process until legislators reconvene in January and could consider a veto override.

The letter was signed by Senate President Gary Stevens, House Speaker Mike Chenault, Senate Finance Co-chairs Lyman Hoffman and Bert Stedman, House Finance Co-chairs Mike Hawker and Bill Stoltze, and House Minority Leader Beth Kerttula.
