Dovie Deautry (Howarth) Beckton

Juneau resident Dovie Deautry (Howarth) Beckton died June 2, 2000, at Saint Ann's Care Center in Juneau.

She was born July 30, 1911, in Washington, Okla., to William Harvey and Isabelle (Smith) Howarth. Her heritage was Choctaw Indian, and her family wrote that she told her grandchildren stories about her grandfather fighting with Geronimo. She worked as a cook and a seamstress, and ran and owned several restaurants in California and Arizona. She moved to Juneau in April 1998.

She is survived by her children Valeta R. Pratt of Douglas, Vera Robertson of California, Lewis Lowrance of Washington and James Lowrance of Arizona; grandchildren Craig Kirk of Douglas, Michael Kirk of Florida and numerous other relations.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann's Care Center. Memorials and flowers may be sent to St. Ann's 411 S. 6th, Juneau, AK., 99801.

Betty Lou Heueisen

Juneau resident Betty Lou Heueisen died June 4, 2000, in Juneau.

She was born Sept. 4, 1943, in Indianapolis, Ind. She attended Ball State College before moving to Alaska in 1964. She worked as a legal secretary and retired from Robertson, Monagle and Eastaugh in February 2000. She married Joe Heueisen in 1985 in Hawaii, and they recently returned from celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary in Maui.

She was an avid golfer and loved to garden.

She is survived by her mother Ruth Rust of Indiana; her husband Joe Heueisen, daughter Toi (and Ron) Gile, son Matthew R. Dillman and grandchildren Amanda and Bradley Gile, all of Juneau; stepchildren Christine Millay of Juneau and Shauna Karimzadeh and John Heueisen III, of Oregon; and siblings Phylis Risher of Illinois, Connie Faulkner of Texas, Barbara Spencer of Colorado, Tom Rust of Georgia and John Rust of Indiana. She was preceded in death by her father Charles Rust.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Alaska Memorial Park in Juneau. Pallbearers will be Karleen Grummett, Jennifer Schmitz, Jan Mercer, Norine Coffee, Sandy Dallas and Lori Kappler.

Connie Gay Rogi

Former Juneau resident Connie Gay Rogi, 39, died June 4, 2000, in Fallon, Nev.

She was born May 1, 1961, in Enterprise, Ore., to Arthur Weaver and Rosemary Hobson. She was of Tlingit heritage, and lived in Juneau before moving to Fallon six years ago. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband Joseph and children Eric, Joseph Jr., Katana and Sai Rogi, all of Fallon, sisters Dinah Hobson George and Kay Howard of Juneau, and brothers Russell Hobson and Kim Weaver of Portland, Ore. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be held this week in Fallon.

Bob Hill

Former Juneau resident Robert Curtis (Bob) Hill, 74, died May 21, 2000, in Shelton, Wash., following a long illness.

He was born July 29, 1925, in Tumwater, Wash., to Jesse and Wanda Gay Hill. He served in the U.S. Navy on the destroyer Abner Reed during World War II, and after the war he briefly served with the Shelton Police Department.

He lived in Southeast Alaska 42 years. He lived in Juneau and communities surrounding Juneau such as Thorne Bay from 1947 until 1989. He worked as logger in his early years in Alaska. He worked for Alaska Electric Light and Power for 29 years as a substation operator at Sheep Creek. He retired from AEL&P in 1986 and spent the past 11 years in the Shelton area with his wife Barbara.

He loved to boat and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a pilot and flew Super Cubs while in Juneau, and kept horses in Washington. He was an avid motorcyclist.

He is survived by sister Cora (and George) Pitts; brothers Boyd (and Joanne) Hill and Jerry (and Ruth) Shelton, all of Washington; children Ron (and Susie) Chapman, Barbara (and Jerry) Duncan and Kristi (and Kurt) West of Juneau, Sherri Nigh, Norma (and Barry) Unger and Penny Chapman of Washington, Tracy Hill of Arizona and Jody White of Florida;, 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and longtime Alaska friends.
