JUNEAU - A garage sale, bake sale and breakfast will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10300 Glacier Hwy., to raise money for the daughters of Juan MacFarlane, who died May 19 in a fall.
Friends and family held a "MacFarlane Girls Fund-raiser" last Saturday and garnered almost $5,000 for the girls, age 3 and 5. According to Jill Herrick, a coordinator of the event, the sale and breakfast were so successful that organizers decided to do it again.
Last Saturday, resident Bob Briggs cooked and sold more than 50 French-toast breakfasts and has volunteered to do it again this Saturday.
Two anonymous donations of $500 were received last week. Checks can be made out to "The Daughters of Juan MacFarlane" to assure that the donation is split evenly between the two girls.
Anyone who would like to help haul unsold goods after the event is welcome to participate. Some unsold items will go to thrift stores and the rest will be dumped at Waste Management for free.
Donations of baked goods are welcome, but there is more than enough housewares, toys, baby items, bikes, sporting goods and clothing, organizers said.
For more information, call Herrick at 789-1831.
