Gov. Tony Knowles shakes the hand of Juneau-Douglas High School softball player Rae Walker on Wednesday at the Governor's Mansion as Walker's teammates (left to right) Kynde Baun, Krista Staveland and Kari Parr look on. Knowles and Lt. Gov. Fran Ulmer met with Juneau's state champion softball and baseball teams, pictured at right, and handed out certificates to each team member.
The teams won their respective state tournaments last Saturday. The Crimson Bear softball team defeated Service at Cartee Fields in Anchorage to reclaim the title it last won in 1999. The baseball team defeated Lathrop at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer to win its first-ever state title.
