For the past 16 summers, Juneau residents have gathered in Marine Park on Friday nights for the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council's Concerts in the Park.
This Friday, June 7, two Native dance groups will kick off the weekly concert series with a performance at 7 p.m. - the Dzantik'i Heeni Lei'x I Dancers and Xudzidaa Kwaan Dancers of Angoon, with Patricia Macklin as emcee.
The concerts are held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. every Friday from early June until mid-August. The concerts generally feature three acts doing 25-minute sets, with a local master of ceremonies introducing each act.
Performers include local and guest musicians, dancers and magicians. Other groups scheduled to perform this month include: Funny Bones, The Camp Singers, Janice Holst Dancers, June 14; Subliminal Criminals and Daughters of the New Moon, June 21; and JDU Fine Arts Camp dancers, Stroller White Pipe and Drums, Animatronics Stage Show, June 28.
If it's raining, the concerts move to the Juneau Assembly chambers across the street from Marine Park.
