Coeur Alaska can go back to drawing board

Posted: Wednesday, June 06, 2007

It's great to live in a community where people are willing to stand up for the law. The Clean Water Act has been around since the 1970s. It has served our nation well in cleaning up and preserving our water. It was no surprise then, that in this country, you're still not allowed to just dump industrial waste into our water.

Sound off on the important issues at

Coeur Alaska can go back to designing a mine that's legal. One solution would be to build a dry-tailings facility instead of just piping waste into a lake. Dry tailings will require more workers, especially truck drivers and heavy-equipment operators. If it's more expensive, well that's just more money spent in Juneau.

Hats off to everyone who stood up for the law.
