Quietly and without much fanfare, the new field house at Dimond Park is taking shape.
The other day I poked my head into this new community structure and was pleased to see what will be a welcome addition to the athletic and recreational facilities in Juneau. The new multi-purpose building will contain an indoor soccer practice field, running track, baseball practice areas and other athletic space.
Construction on the new field house is nearly done and the workers finishing the job are clearly doing a first rate job.
Reed Stoops and the folks at the Juneau Community Foundation deserve a round of applause for acquiring the funding and managing the construction of the new facility.
Simone Machamer and the folks at Wells Fargo were instrumental in providing funding for the new field house that augmented the legislative appropriation obtained by Juneau Rep. Bruce Weyhrauch a few years back.
Wayne Jensen donated substantial design services through his architectural firm to make the new athletic facility a reality, just like he did with the Treadwell Arena. The city of Juneau donated the land for the new field house with the active support of the Dimond Park Board.
In the late summer or early autumn, look for the opening of the new Dimond Park Field House. Make sure you attend the opening celebration of this new facility that is being completed "on time and under cost" and don't forget to thank Reed Stoops and the other individuals and organizations that made this wonderful facility possible.
