During the past week, I had the opportunity to hike various trails in the Juneau area with out-of-town visitors. More than once I was asked the embarrassing question, ``Why don't folks from Juneau pick up their trash?''
Good question.
We live in such a beautiful place, yet some folks here are such losers. They lose picnic garbage, kids' clothing, bedding and plastic toys. Thank goodness they didn't leave the kids, too. Today I spent my lunch hour picking up trash in one small area of the trail between Back Loop Bridge and the south end of Moose Lake. I collected an entire garbage bag full.
Come on folks, you brought it in; haul it out. Civic pride and personal pride go together; do yourself a favor. And if you're missing a red and yellow plastic dump truck, you can repurchase it at St. Vincent's Thrift Shop.
