In season: Black bear (until June 30), freshwater steelhead trout (peaks April-June), cutthroat trout (peaks May-June), salt and freshwater king salmon (peaks May-July), halibut and rockfish (peaks June-Sept.), sockeye, pink and chum salmon (runs June to Sept., peaks in July), coho salmon (June-Nov.), Dolly Varden (June-Aug.), bear viewing at Pack Creek (June-Sept., peaks July and Aug.)

June 7: 4-H youth running club meets at Floyd Dryden Track at 5 p.m. Call Jamie or John Bursell at 789-5997 for details.

June 9: Family Fishing Day at Twin Lakes. Call Mark Schwan at 465-4320 for details.

June 9: End of School Youth Fun Run at 10 a.m. for anyone 18 or younger. Half-mile and full mile courses follow the bike path along Twin Lakes. Registration is $3 in advance at Zach Gordon or from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. at the race.

June 9: The Saturday hike is the West Glacier Trail. This will be a moderate, 7-mile tour with a 1,300 foot elevation change. Meet at the trailhead past Skaters Cabin at 9:30 a.m. No dogs or firearms please. Call the hike hotline at 586-0428.

June 9: NRA Smallbore rifle silhouette at the Hank Harmon Rifle Range, 9 a.m. registration, shoot at 10 a.m. Juneau Rifle and Pistol Club.

June 9-10: Ketchikan King Salmon Derby, third of three weekends. Call 225-3184 for details.

June 9: Kids Day program on how wildlife and people use trees at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center covered viewing area from 11 a.m. to noon. Children under 7 should bring an adult. Call 789-6640.

June 10: Recreational bike ride. Meet at 1818 Fritz Cove Road to ride around Lena Loop Road. The ride will include a picnic, so bring food, friends and family. Bill will furnish burgers, buns and condiments. RSVP to 789-9095.

June 10: Public trap shoot at 10 a.m. every Sunday at the Hank Harmon Rifle Range on Montana Creek Road. Call the Juneau Gun Club, 789-9844.

June 11-15: Level 1 Basic Dinghy Sailing (ages 12-18). Call 789-3546 or visit www.juneausailingclub.org/.

June 13: Wednesday Evening Sailing Clinic. Call 789-3546 or visit www.juneausailingclub.org/.
